Textile Therapy

Do you ever have a stressful day at work? Like you worked all week for a meeting on Friday. And then you show up to the meeting and the whole focus of the project you were working on changes? Yep. I was actually planning on taking the second half of the day off after the meeting was over. To celebrate my hard work this week and to begin my weekend at lunch. I did leave to get lunch and just knew I couldn't go home yet. After working for four additional hours than originally planned for the day, my brain was fried. I felt exhausted, frustrated, and I even snapped at my husband when he called me to tell me he'd done a favor for me.
I finally signed out at 5:30 and looked across my desk at the disaster that had accumulated throughout the week. Not quite feeling up to driving home yet, I began to set it straight. I took my recycling out, straightened my things, washed my coffee cup. And then I came to my Material Bank boxes. I now have 3 slim black boxes from my new favorite sample distributor. I took some time to sort through all the new samples I have and organize them into categories: recycle, project, and textiles.
We don't have a large textile library at our office yet and as I began folding these fabrics and grouping them together, it was pure therapy. There's something so pleasing about finding color patterns and feeling the different textures at play. I sat down and really organized them in a way that might drive some people absolutely crazy, but for me, I found a little bit of sanity to grasp on to on this Friday evening. -C
