Retail Survey Sample

This example shows a retail survey sample. Drawn from field measurements and photos, these drawings document the location of the lease line and existing conditions for a future retail tenant. Produced in CAD, this is an example of a quick turn-around set of survey documents.

Restaurant Survey Sample

This example shows a complete restaurant survey. Field notes and photos were taken on site to be then translated into an account of the existing restaurant space. Produced in Revit, this example includes furniture and acts a living 3D model of the space.

Below is a compilation of my student work.

SIMplex

SIMplex is a modern, urban apartment complex located in Downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. SIMplex offers a variety of unit sizes that challenge space requirements while also meeting ADA requirements. New to the plan is a Fitness Center on the top floor and Lounges on every residential floor. Replacing the existing ground level programs is a Market to service the downtown area. SIMplex is simple living in a complex apartment.

Healthcare Crossing

Healthcare Crossing is the extensive plan for a healthcare campus in Gretna, Nebraska. The interior of this vibrant hopsital is fun and playful. It is a stimulating environment designed to be a place full of life and healthy living.

No More Empty Pots

No More Empty Pots is a project designed to provide a place for the area to learn learn to cook as a means of building community. The program calls for a market, bakery, training kitchens, and plenty of event space. Our unique design provides additional kitchens and new uses of technology. The Veggie ATM is available on the exterior of the building for those who want to skip the line indoors or who are arriving after hours for just a few vegetables. Solar panels on the roof provide shade for guests on the roof and begin to bring energy to the interior.

MIDAS Office Design

The MIDAS Office was located on an upper floor with curtain walls on all sides of the building. More private programs were located to the center and open workstations were located around the perimeter allowing views from all directions. Long, wide corridors connecting the programs also serve as lounge areas for employees to use as break-out rooms in addition to informal gallery space. The lobby of the office can be converted to event space and serves as a public art gallery.

La Belle Vie Cosmetics

Retail Design Institute competition 2014 submission. La Belle Vie is my proposal for a high-end cosmetic store in an urban city. I considered a new brand and name for the given store and further developed the existing program to include not only the standard products, but also a hair salon, pedicure and manicure stations, and a virtual makeover bar.

Rebranding Marc Jacobs

In order to enhance the Marc Jacobs brand, I am proposing a new logo for the designer line. My design is a simple. playful version of the designer's initials. Diagrams show the exploration of existing store layouts and branding methods that influenced my design decisions. A large wall display of shoes mimics the simple geometry of the new logo. The simple black, white, and gray color scheme allows the color of the product to stand out as it changes with the seasons.

ReLax, Outdoor Living

The ReStore is a home improvement store that runs solely on donations that benefit the local Habitat for Humanity. To promote the opening of the new ReStore in Lincoln, my classmate and I proposed using some of the items in the new store to create an outdoor living area as a display for the store. Pallets can be used to construct a rustic sofa and old wishing wells and a pressure cooker combine easily to make a fire pit.

In.Transition

This design proposes converting an old warehouse in the Lincoln Haymarket into a four story home for those transitioning out of the Foster Care system. The entire building is branded to embody the idea of building community among its residents. I have designed a four-bed room that is bright and stimulating for the young people living there, while also respecting the history of the building by leaving the exposed brick exterior walls visible to the interiors.

A House Between Houses

Given the client of a young war veteran confined to a wheelchair, I had to address the necessity of universal design, focusing specifically on accessibility. In addition to the limits of the client, the lot I was given to work with was located between two existing houses in the city of Lincoln. After analyzing the needs of the client and considering the unique shape of the lot, formulating the necessary floor plan came naturally with a system of organization relating to the different privacy zones of the house.

Wayfinding for a Park

The Southern Heights Food Forest is a combined effort of Nature Explore, Community CROPS, and the students at UNL. As a team, we came up with an overall program to enhance the existing plans for the food forest. We decided that a consistent system of wayfinding as well as addressing the different possible thresholds of the park was the best method for bringing the community to this new location.

Accessory Dwelling Unit

Given an actual house in Lincoln, Nebraska, our class studied the houses and determined that the existing neighborhood would benefit from ADUs. An ADU also known as an accessory dwelling unit is a smaller house located in the backyard to an existing house used to densify suburbia. Given the challenge of designing for a Millennial, I focused on creating spaces for entertaining and flexible spaces that can be modified by the given use.

Sitcom Study

After watching an episode of Friends several times, I began to understand the relationships between the characters and their apartments. I  noticed patterns in where they traveled throughout the duration fo the episode and additionally a point of conflict caused by the constraints of the coffee table in their living room. The table I noticed, was too large, separating the friends from being able to reach each other during a toast. After designing a new coffee table, they can not efficiently reach each other.

Villa Savoye Study

A classmate and I chose to study Le Corbusier's Villa Savoye. We completed extensive research on the residence, learning everything we could about the way the building both looked and was experienced. After completing the drawings and model of the building, we thought how the house was experienced and who we could describe that through an analytical model. The result was a form of binoculars that simulate the view from the windows within the Villa.

The Wall

The wall is set to take place in the Sculpture Garden on UNL campus. It is a wall that creates privacy for students looking for a place to study on nice days. Not only is it a wall, there are also several places to sit and there are also stairs that can be used to ascend or descend from one level to another.

The Barcode Project

The Barcode Project began with developing a barcode based on my phone number, making it unique from my classmates. The lines of the barcode were then extruded into 48 different profiles with 9 moving verticies. After the original model was developed, the surface was made into a triangulation. Lastly, the triangulation allowed for me to develop an interesting surface that could potentially be an abstract place inhabited by people.
